Researchers Assess Gay Youths' Mental Health
According to new U.S. research One third of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) adolescents have attempted suicide once in their life although they are mentally strong.
A psychiatric interview is conducted on 246 ethnically diverse LGBT youth, aged 16-20 for major depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), conduct disorder and suicide attempts.
- About 70 percent youth met no criteria for any mental disorders
- 15 percent major depression
- 10 percent post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- 6 percent had made a suicide attempt in the last year
